Youth Nights

We provide free sessions for children and young people (11-18 yrs) every Tuesday at St. Peter's Church in Gildersome, Morley and every Thursday at Gomersal Public Hall, Kirklees.

Sessions take place from 6:00-7:30 pm.

These nights, which are run and led solely by volunteers, are very popular. We have had over 60 young people attend and regularly attract 35 children per week. Not only do they get to take part in a range of fun and educational activities in a safe space but they also get to learn more about mental health. We invite regular speakers to the sessions to ensure we equip the children with the tools and techniques to keep safe and look after their mental wellbeing. For example, we have recently delivered an anti-bullying workshop, had Battle Scars deliver a talk on self-harm, Kooth on their mental wellbeing app and the local police who gave a talk on the dangers of county lines and sexual exploitation.

The night is purely run and led by volunteers and we also have a number of young volunteers who help support the setting up and delivery of activities. We are also supporting a number of young people working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Here’s a piece that Lily, one of our youth night mentors, wrote on completing her Duke of Edinburgh expedition…….

“Hi, I’m Lily, and I’ve been completing some of my Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award with Team Daniel. For my DofE, I had to complete 3 months of Physical, Skill and Volunteering work, as well as an additional 3 months in one of these areas, I chose to extend the volunteering. As soon as I heard the reasons, beginnings and aims of this charity, which are also very important to myself as I see many struggle with mental health on a day to day basis. I began, once a week, helping at the youth night held by Team Daniel every Tuesday. Immediately I felt not only grateful to be part of such a community, but also glad to find a group of people that were willing to sacrifice their own time to help others who might need it. Over these past 6 months, I’ve been lucky enough to earn the trust of these children, therefore becoming someone for them to open up to and talk to about their day, either good or bad. This was a great privilege”.

“On Thursday and Friday (23-24th June), I completed my Duke of Edinburgh expedition, it’s safe to say the preparation was much better than the actual walking and camping! This put an end to my volunteering, skill and physical work, but you can’t get rid of me yet…I’m sticking around (be as excited or not as you please?). Thank you for everything x “
